What is your personal view on the use of antidepressants to treat depression and other mental health conditions? My personal opinion is that antidepressants are grossly overused, people are not properly diagnosed and the root cause of their depression is not being addressed. I disagree with the way depression is being handled in society today. People need to learn natural ways to relieve depression such as relaxation techniques, herbal remedies, meditation, deep breathing, a clean diet and exercise program and drinking pure water.
What do you think is in the future for antidepressant development and use? The future will be in educating people and teaching them what causes depression and addressing the root cause of the condition instead of covering up the symptoms with prescription drugs. These drugs just put a band-aid over the real issues and problems. It is our goal to help this mission become a reality.
What do you identify as the main problems and benefits of antidepressants? The problem is that the average time spent on a doctors visit is less than 7 minutes. How can you properly diagnose someone in this short period. These drugs become addictive and never address the cause of the depression. It is also to easy to just run to a doctor and tell them you are depressed and get on medication. The side effects of anti-depressants can cause the following:
There is an established direct link between suicide and violent behavior and the use of SSRIs.
There is currently no full understanding about how antidepressants, and depression, affect the brain.
Drug companies still admit that they don't fully know how depression drugs work!
Bombarding the body with toxic drugs creates unpleasant side effects.
Side effects:
Dry mouth
Urinary retention
Blurred vision
Constipation
Sedation (can interfere with driving or operating machinery)
Sleep disruption
Weight gain
Headache
Nausea
Gastrointestinal disturbance/diarrhea
Abdominal pain
Inability to achieve an erection
Inability to achieve an orgasm (men and women)
Loss of libido
Agitation
Anxiety
