I would like to seek the guidance and assistance of a naturopath or homeopathic doctor with regard to replacing, weening myself possible off of lithium. I am now taking 450 mg. for about a month, but have taken 600mg. for 23 years. I have had my ups and downs with no episodes that required therapy or hospitalization. I am on a very low theraputic dose, barely theraputic on blood level tests. Is it possible to use herbal replacement? Is lithium oratate my only option? My other health issue is a total hysterectomy 4 years ago. I am on the vivelle patch .75. I am doing well taking a daily multi, omega 3 6 9, 450 mg. lithium, and the estrogen patch. When asked my doctor tells me to look at lithium as a vitamin and has basically told me she would not support me in my efforts to reduce or possibly get off the meds totally. I only see her once every six months for meds. Your thoughts please? Thank you for your reply and consideration. JB

Hi JB

It certainly may be possible for you to use a natural lithium (lithium salt). Many people have success with this when they incorporate lifestyle changes such as healthy diet, water, exercise, etc.

Type in naturopathic doctors on the internet. There are several places that list natuorpaths by state. However, be sure that you choose a natural doctor that has experience in helping people to wean off of lithium and will recommend a suitable natural replacement.

Do not attempt to wean yourself off the lithium.

Your other option is to find an MD that is willing to work with you in helping you to get off of the lithium.

Very Happy
