help! I failed my GCSEs?
Hi, can anyone help. I have got myself into a very bad situation. I am 16 years old and due to missing about 4 years of school have only got G grades in my GCSEs (apart from getting a C grade in English) .I wondeed what my options are in terms of going to college? Do they have any courses for people in my situation? If so then what are they (called)? Can anyone tell me a bit about them? and what can someone progress to from these courses?
Also....I have heard they run a few random GCSE subjects (mainly English and maths) at college? please be honest...would doing GCSE courses at college be suitable for someone in my situation? If so then how many subjects and what subjects should I take? and for how long? Also I wouldn't have a clue how to put a timetable of these subjects together (how to link them) etc.... so what can I do about this??(expecially if they are at different colleges)Who would help me to link the subjects together??? If I got G grades in my GCSEs ....what sort of a grade do you think I'd get at the end of a few 1 yr GCSE course subjects sat at college?please be honest. and what could I progress to after the GCSE courses?
Can anyone out there help me? I feel really frightened about my future and no-one at home will help me.
Does getting G grades mean that I have no future worth living?
Or that I will never get a well-paid job?
PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, I don't understand the particulars about the testing situation in the UK. I do, however, understand grades and school in general. There is always a way to make up for time that you have missed or tests that you have failed. It would be much easier for you if someone at home could help you to find your options, but it sounds as if that is not the case. It may be a little uncomfortable but a teacher, counselor, or school administrator should be able to direct you to a person that understands the options in your particular case.

Here is a secret to dealing with situations like these: you don't have to know all of the answers or the outcome immediately. You need to figure out some of the basic questions that you have and find someone that can point you in the right direction; that's all. The rest will come as you begin to talk to people and investigate the options that you have. I would suggest taking a notebook and writing down your questions. You can then use this to keep notes and follow your progress as you find out more of the answers to your questions.

Again, I am very sorry to hear that you do not have a person at home that can offer you some help and support. If you did, they would probably tell you that there are few things that you can do at age 16 that cannot be overcome with a little hard work. I think that failing a test or getting a few bad grades definitely falls into this category. Don't misunderstand; I am sure that you feel panicked about the situation and miserable about the results. This is totally normally. It would be abnormal if you didn't care about the problem and, I think, a bigger cause for concern.

If you have missed 4 years of school, do not be surprised if it takes at least a couple of years to catch up. This is far better than a lifetime of wishing that you had taken the time to do it.
